There's no buildup or rising or falling action.

In my opinion, the action is just a flat line the whole time. The book starts off with Ivy and Tristan in a car crash, which I personally think is the climax of the book, and with him saying that the brake doesn't work. Then basically the rest of the book is about Tristan getting Ivy's attention, even though you already know how it's going to end. You already know that they're going to end u If there was a 'zero star' button, I would use that. You already know that they're going to end up dating and you already know that they're going to get in a car crash because of the little thing in the beginning.

Most of the book is a mix of an extended flashback and Ivy moping. Nothing happens. The element of surprise isn't surprising. At the end of the book, there's supposed to be this big revelation that someone tampered with the brakes and forced them off the road. That's probably supposed to be the climax, but I figured that out in the first pages, when the book states, "'That's funny,' Tristan murmured. The animal's eyes blazed. Then light came from behind it, a bright burst around its dark shape.

A car was coming from the opposite direction. Trees walled them in. There was no room to veer left or right. It was evident to me, at least, that something was wrong with the car. Maybe the author thinks that the readers aren't as intelligent. Maybe she thinks Tristan isn't that intelligent. Maybe my copy of the book which I got online got messed up and put their car crash in the beginning. The heroine is annoying. I thought I would never have to read another mopey Bella Swann book, but here it is.

After Tristan dies, Ivy just becomes depressed. She lashes out at her friends. She loses belief in her religion. She dismisses her brother. Are you serious? Her throwing out her angel statues are the equivalent of smashing a picture of Jesus. She claims, "If angels were real, if angels were our guardians, Tristan would be alive! Ever heard of the phrase "Everything happens for a reason"? Also, I felt like Ivy couldn't fend for herself. She couldn't see what was right in front of her eyes either, and refused to see that angels actually did exist.

The characters have no depth. I feel as though all of the characters just have one aspect of their personality that they follow. Suzanne, for instance, is this party girl who is pretty much obsessed with Gregory, her crush.

Later on in the series, this leads to her choosing Gregory over her supposed "best friend". But if Ivy was her best friend then she would actually listen to her. I felt like I couldn't connect with any of the characters in the book, nor did I want to. Oh, and Tristan and Ivy's "love". Yeah, no. I didn't feel any of it.

The author said they were in love, but I had no way of discerning that because none of Tristan's or Ivy's seemed that romantic. Personally, I thought they were just annoying. The book isn't believable. So apparently, Tristan can just take in Ivy's cat. Just like that. Doesn't he have to, oh, I don't know, ask his parents? I don't remember anything about him doing that, and even if he did, no parent in their right mind would let their son -- who had no idea how to care for a cat -- just get a cat, just like that.

And how come the drama teacher had them jump off a diving board? It seems like connections were trying to be made where there were none.

Ooh and on top of that, Ivy got over her fear of water just like that. If the love of my life made me stand of top of a tower for an hour that rhymes! I would be even more scared of heights, not not scared at all. I'm not sure how the author expects us to believe it. Don't read this book, and save yourself the agony. Personally, I hated it. Look at that cheesey cover. This is one of those books that's good to read when you just want something easy that you don't have to think about.

It's super quick. I think it's supposed to be emotional, but the characters are very hard to get to know. There fun was over before it really began. Spoiler: Tristan dies. He is an angel, still in love with Ivy.

He has a mission, only he doesn't know what it i Meh. He has a mission, only he doesn't know what it is. I also have to note how insanely short this one was. I would have been dissapointed if I had bought this! Feb 21, Kellee rated it it was amazing. I was looking for a new book to read while I was in Target and the books I wanted weren't in, so I picked this book up because it looked interesting.

It was the copy with all three of the books in the trilogy all bound into one book. I read the whole pages in roughly one day. It's a very, VERY good book. In the beginning, you really want to know whats going to happen with Ivy moving into a new house, and getting a step-dad who is always buying expensive gifts, and a step brother who is really annoying. Then, you want to know what is going to happen between Ivy and Tristan. After that, you're in tears over Tristan's death, and feel sorry for Tristan and amazed that even after his death he's still completely in love with Ivy and that's what he lives for- or rather exists for.

The best book I've read since the Twilight series :D View 2 comments. May 03, Connie rated it liked it Shelves: read-in , owned , series-finished. I own this book. When this book starts, we meet Ivy and Tristan as they begin their relationship. Beginning hesitantly but quickly falling in love and forming a solid bond, young loves young dream and all that.

Ivy can't imagine what life would be like without him until she has to. Following a car accident, Ivy survives and Tristan doesn't, meaning she has to navigate life without the love of her life. But when Tristan wakes up on the other side of life, he realises he has a job to do, a missi I own this book. But when Tristan wakes up on the other side of life, he realises he has a job to do, a mission to fulfil. This book mainly follows Tristan attempting to reach Ivy to let her know he's there, but Ivy getting upset at every try.

I found this to be an incredibly slow burn of a book. It didn't have a lot of action and the explanation of how Tristan and Ivy got together was incredibly long, practically making up the majority of the book. Overall, this was a good read but it definitely was a typical YA book published in the 90s.

Feb 03, Aggie rated it did not like it Shelves: young-adult , fantasy , romance. I almost liked this book until the eleventh chapter, but after that I cried like a baby.

I felt so bad for Tristan, that cute, charming boy didn't deserve die so fast. Besides that I didn't liked this story much. It was quite boring and nothing special actually happened. As always, I'm not saying that this books is bad or not worth of time. I would never say that about any book. I just didn't liked it and that is only my opinion ; I almost liked this book until the eleventh chapter, but after that I just didn't liked it and that is only my opinion ; I've passed this book multiple times at my local book store and now I've finally gotten around to reading it because of one of the challenges.

This book is about Ivy and Tristan and how they are meant to be together. So then Tristin dies in a car accident, Ivy's world gets turned upside down. She used to believe in guardian angels, but not anymore. Only now Tristin is her guardian angel. Tristin is there to find his quest and figure out how to save Ivy even if she doesn't know he's there. The ov I've passed this book multiple times at my local book store and now I've finally gotten around to reading it because of one of the challenges.

The overall concept of this book was strange, but the cover was interesting so why not. I wasn't sure what the think about this book when heading in. The Bad I found this book very slow paced and it seemed to be like nothing was happening. It was a book almost about nothing until the last few chapters when things started to get interesting. The audiobook was kind of bland which didn't make it any fun really to listen to, but I would have rather been listening than reading with the slow pace it was going at.

The Good It was a good thing this was a small book because if it wouldn't have been then I would not have been able to have finished in one day. Overall It was a good book, but just wasn't the book for me.

I will be continuing the series because maybe it'll get better. Ivy's character was sweet and understanding, but she allowed herself to be more pushed around. Tristin was an extremely sweet boy trying to get Ivy's attention and he even adopted her cat just to make sure that Ivy can always see Bella. I loved how compassionate he was and how willing he was to try to be with Ivy. They were together for a short while when they crashed, but it was that short time they had together that mattered.

The ending did make me give it 3 stars because I would like to know who view spoiler [ wanted to kill them hide spoiler ] which is the main reason in why I'm continuing the series. Reading Challenge A book at the bottom of your to-read list Even though I absolutely love angel books, I didn't go into reading this with much thought. It's an older book so I wasn't really expecting to be blown away. Not saying that older books aren't well written, it's just that times are different and writing styles and techniques have improved since then In short, I enjoyed this book for what it's worth.

This book didn't have complex characters and the plot was pretty average but more Reading Challenge A book at the bottom of your to-read list Even though I absolutely love angel books, I didn't go into reading this with much thought. This book didn't have complex characters and the plot was pretty average but more on that later. This is a six book series so I'm pretty sure things will eventually pick up, but don't mistake this as a negative review.

My Rating: 3. The story goes back in time so you're able to witness how they fell in love in the first place, up to present day, Tristan dying and finding out how to cope with life as an angel.

As for the characters, I don't have too much of an opinion on them. I liked Ivy even though she's a little obsessive when it comes to angels. And I thought I was bad. See return policy for details.
