Now I bought this book from the seller on Amazon, so I expected another Canada Post shipment as usual. Guess what, the seller is actually in Asia and they ship by DHL.
The shipment came to Canada in 3 days, which is crazy fast. But I was not home when the delivery was attempted. The delivery tracking system says the DHL driver left it in the mailbox.
But guess what, I have a community mailbox. For those of you who don't know what a community mailbox is, it looks like this: This is Canada Post property, and only Canada Post employees have keys to the mailbox.
I had DHL manager call me and tell me the same story about leaving it in the mailbox. So I came home and checked the mailbox - nothing there. Now I have to "expect" another set of calls on my cellphone tomorrow during work hours regarding this stupid DHL delivery that should have been a piece of cake.
Now it turned into a full time job. I am posting this because I saw a thread here with people complaining about Canada Post and how Teksavvy ships the modems and leaves them at the Post Office. I think that leaving packages at the Post Office is the best system ever invented for people who work during daytime hours.
I don't even know what's going to happen with this DHL delivery anymore or how they are going to find me when I'm at work all the time. From now on I will not buy anything unless it's shipped by Canada Post. That's it, lesson learned.
When it's across the street yeah, but not when you have to haul your ass halfway across the city because some moron decided that you the closest post office is in Tornoto and you can't go to that one, because you live in Scarborugh. Worst case and hopefully not the case here but perhaps the driver dropped it on at the wrong house. If it were UPS however this would be a different story.
I avoid DHL if at all possible. They have zero local infrastructure, just a warehouse at the airport. They only deliver when you're at work, so basically ANY package delivered via DHL will require you to go to the airport and pick it up yourself. Which is also extremely dangerous to pedestrians. I only did it the one time because I was desperate the package contained Christmas presents for my family , and the only time I ever get packages via DHL is when the store ships it DHL without informing me in advance.
Their US operations were cut back very sharply, and I think this carried over to Canada to some extent too. Their focus has shifted since then. DHL's founder, now deceased, led a controversial life. No big deal, right? Well as others have said, they did whatever business trickery they did and broke off their domestic shipping, now called Loomis technically owned by DHL I believe. Anywho, package fails. I have it explained to me that the package is on it's way to Hamilton, the closest actual DHL facility.
They said they would happily leave it at the local London Loomis facility for me to pickup, but that I'd have to wait til after 5pm the NEXT day since they'd have to ship it back from Hamilton. Even though it had already been in London. I tried to have a reasonable policy conversation with them that "wouldn't it have made sense to default to the London Loomis facility?
I mean, it's not like I'm going to drive to Hamilton. Maybe I re-request delivery. Either way they're still driving it around SW Ontario like idiots.
Guy on the line said "no big deal, we have trucks going to and from anyway". Well, when you add up 's of packages over the year, I'm sure you end up shipping many tonnes of additional weight unnecessarily.

I posted the parcel on Brilliant service, always on time and staff the best. Would definitely recommend this company. Got there in 2 days speedy however box was smaller tha So glad the box got there in 2 days very happy with speedy service however the box size and weight Resorted to courier for sending items of no value to anyone else, but crucial to people I know in Always cheerful lovely lady delivery person.
